Robin Williams: Lifetime Anti Rad

Many moons past I read a quote “I have become what I abhor” and I’ve used it many times (typically breaking up with someone…so I can break up yet come off cool. “Wow…I’m losing a man that can use the word ‘abhor’.” I know…It’s a messed up world in my head). Anyway dear readers, we are not here to discuss me…for once. I come not to praise Radworld but to bury Robin Williams. There was a time I marveled at him. I bought “Robin Williams live at the Met”. At the time it was a great piece of comedy to me and to say it didn’t teach me lessons about “comedy” I’d be lying however…the more I read and heard comedy his lessons were that of coked out freak that really is standing of the shoulders of giants. As I watched he really wasn’t more than variations of the six jokes or imitations I heard him do. It’s why Rich Little never made it farther than “Match Game”. I’m glancing over his wikki and I want to like him but I just can’t. He went to Julliard, loves Shakespeare, biking, heavy charity work…I’m sure he’s a good guy. But the camera goes on and I want to kill him, burn every inch of celluloid and dance merrily on it as it runs and coagulates at my feet. Ok,…I’m going to run through the filmography…first the good.
The World According to Garp…The book was great that’s what I saw
Moscow on the Hudson…The idea was great.
Good Morning, Vietnam…He’s bouncing off the walls he’s feels like Alan Alda. The people I know like that are usually medicated
Dead Poets Society. I would have been great in that movie.
The Fisher King…Awesome story and direction. Him? Meh.
Hamlet…Its fucking Hamlet. Joey Lawernce could come off passable.
The Birdcage…Nathan Lane. I think I watched this movie twice before I realized Robin Williams was in it.
Good Will Hunting…Directing and decent story. He jumped on board a moving train.
Insomnia …See GWH. Nolan reeled him in like a marlin and that’s what I like.

Now the horror.
Popeye…I waited in line for this puddle of pigshit
The Survivors…One of my first experiences of most things they show on HBO…kind of sucks
Club Paradise…I made out with a girl in college under this poster. That’s the best I can remember about it.
The Best of Times…Thinking Robin Williams was a football star…that’s a reach.
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen…The only thing I hate in this movie is Robin Williams yet the main quote I remember…”The Head is dead” fuck you Robin for letting that in my mental rolodex.
Awakenings…How can Deniro suck? Just add Williams!
Cadillac Man…I think I planned a hit during this.
Hook…Another 20 bucks…gone. Julia Roberts seemed great by comparison.

Since I started this post I have seen “Man of the Year”. Purely for Barry Sonnefeld directing and like a gut punch. I liked this movie ONLY when Robin Williams wasn’t on the screen. I thought my comedy was just a rehash of the same bits. The worse part is I can see where he’s going to go with what bits. “He’s gonna do his Gandhi thing here…now his big black guy imitation. Robin, think you’re a good person but you’re not funny and I want you to stop making movies. For the planet, for the children and most importantly for me.
